President Ebrahim Raisi

Work is underway to reopen the Iranian Embassy in Tripoli, says Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi.

President Raisi's remarks came during a meeting with Vice President Musa al-Koni of the Presidential Council on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

The Iranian President expressed his country's desire to reactivate bilateral relations and see Libya reclaim its leadership role in the Arab and international arenas.

Libya's participation in the BRICS summit reflects the success of efforts to build a stable state and indicates Libya's return to its role in the continent, President Raisi said.

He further emphasized Iran's support for BRICS efforts to create a strong and independent economic climate, implying that expanding cooperation with Libya would enhance this approach.

The parties exchanged notes on how to expand health cooperation in light of Iran's developed system for treating regional diseases.

During the meeting, the Iranian president invited Al-Koni to visit Tehran to discuss mechanisms of drawing up a road map to enhance cooperation.

Last July, Foreign Minister Najla al-Manqoush arrived in Tehran, marking the first visit by a high-level Libyan delegation in nearly 16 years.
