The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has met in Tripoli with the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, to discuss the latest developments that would lead to the holding of the Libyan National Conference (Multaqa Al-Watani.)
Attending the meeting was the deputy head of the UNSMIL for political affairs Stephanie Williams.
According to the media office of the Presidential Council, the meeting went over the political developments with Salame briefing Al-Sirraj about the steps he had made lately in order to make the conference succeed once held.
The conference is scheduled to be held soon with participation by all Libyan parties and components without exclusions, hence paving the way for constitutional referendum and elections.
Earlier, Salame said he was content with the progress made by the UNSMIL on the track for the holding of the conference.
He said elections will be held by the end of this year, adding that the efforts of the UNSMIL aim to improving living conditions for all Libyans piecemeal.
On Wednesday, Salame told Alhurra TV channel that his action plan involves a referendum then presidential elections before the end of 2019, saying they had contacted all Libyan military and political parties to make the National Conference a success.
