UNICEF is to launch a Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) in Libya between August and October of this year.

The organization welcomed on Sunday the European Union's contribution of EUR 1.5 million to undertake the first (MICS) in Libya.

The project will help fill data gaps for monitoring several key human development indicators and to gather essential data on the overall situation of children and women, UNICEF says.

Another goal is to support evidence generation as well as capacity building of government institutions in the area of data and statistics.

In addition, the MICS survey will enable evidence-based planning and policy formulation toward the realization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and, in particular, toward the realization of children's rights.

The UN organization said the past conflict in Libya created a data gap, which impeded the government's ability to generate, analyze and use data across all sectors.
