By Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq Al-Gharyani

The Fatwa House’s stance has been explained since the arrival day of the UN-proposed government to Abu Sitta Navy Base. It explained that it is not against the accord, but it wants a real accord that maintains the religion and the homeland. It has clarified that this government does not have legitimacy and is not an accord government as it was appointed by the UN envoy and no one was consulted about it.

The FH said at the time, “if the government wants to be a government of real accord, then it must be conscious about the essential notes, which were given by the scholars regarding the agreement’s draft.” If those notes were taken seriously, the FH would have been the first to support the government without any hesitation because it wants an accord that exacts justice and protects religion as well as the homeland, not an accord that adds to the humiliation and division leading Libya to oppression again.

However, instead of exerting efforts to respond to those just notes and gather everyone around it, the government took it too far in forcing things and ordered the freezing of the assets and starving of people before it even gets the legitimacy of the draft it was created by. After that, the bodies that control Libya’s money, such as the Central Bank of Libya, hurried to execute its orders even though they knew it was illegitimate. Those bodies gained legitimacy to put the laws under their shoes since they tossed the verdict of the Supreme Court in the garbage basket with the blessing of the international community, and Libya is now paying the tax for their actions.

The supporters of this government have also crossed the line by waging large-scale media campaigns against the Fatwa House, alleging that the FH’s notes, which were given by the scholars, were included in the final draft, accusing the Grand Mufti of being oblivious and that those around him are trying to lead him off the track by giving him false information.

This what our brothers said – May Allah forgive them and us. As regards to the UN envoy, when he visited the FH, they explained the notes to him, he did not say they were amended or included in the draft or the FH is not following the happenings well and it is oblivious. However, he said the truth, though it might have been a bitter truth, and explained that the draft cannot be amended and it was done, so he was true to himself this time!
