A quarterly report has been released by the Interior Ministry today highlighting four main categories in relation to automobiles and transport.
The breakdown of the report is as follows:
1- Statistics for automobile accidents for the first quarter of the year 2017.
In January 2017, there were 416 accidents, 169 resulting in death, 246 injuries and 618 vehicles destroyed costing an estimated 1417020 LD in damages.
February saw 371 accidents, 198 resulting in death, 290 injuries and 593 vehicles destroyed costing an estimated 1717130 LD in damages.
March saw 432 accidents, 152 resulting in death, 292 injuries and 543 vehicles destroyed costing an estimated 1995050 LD in damages.
Bringing the total for the first three months of 2017 to 1219 accidents, 519 resulting in death, 828 injuries and 1754 vehicles destroyed costing an estimated 5129200 LD in damages.
2- Statistics of income due to registrations and fines etc. for the three-month period.
For the month of January, there was an income of 210328.5 LD. For the month of February, the income was 235008.5 LD. For the month of March, the income was 297809 LD.
Bringing the total over the three month period to 743.146 LD.
3- Statistics for the number of automobiles registered and driving licenses issued for the three-month period.
There were 31404 automobiles registered to Libyans while 60 were registered to expatriates bringing the total to 31464.
There were 15654 driving licenses issued to Libyans while 75 were issued to expatriates bringing the total to 15729.
4- Statistics for the number of vehicles that took the vehicle safety and roadworthiness test over the three-month period.
The month of January saw 15605 vehicles take the test while 17956 took it in February. 19182 vehicles took the test in March bringing the total to 52743.
