A credentialing ceremony for 4 new ambassadors was held in Tripoli’s Red Castle on Thursday.
The historical Saraya Hamra building had undergone maintenance last week in preparation for the arrival of ambassadors of Yemen, Turkey, Austria and Canada with another group of ambassadors set to arrive next week, according to foreign ministry sources.
Speaking to journalists, Turkish ambassador Ahmet Aydın Doğan said his embassy would be reopened in Tripoli in two weeks’ time and that he would exert effort to facilitate visa procedures.
The Canadian ambassador David Sproule expected his embassy to reopen in 2017.
The Saraya Hamra building was chosen because of its historic links to an era when the Ottomans and King Idris would welcome foreign dignitaries and diplomats there.
