A ceremony to launch the National Strategy for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency has been held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, which comes in the context of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Planning, the Renewable Energy Agency, the General Electricity Company, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In his speech on the occasion, Dbeibah stressed the importance of completing the document related to the National Strategy for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (NSREEE), as it is the scientific and professional option for the next stage, stressing that Libya has different resources in the field of energy, for which a general framework is needed to regulate it, such as NSREEE, which will contribute to organizing and developing of programmes and projects related to renewable energy and reduction of its consumption. The strategy team made a presentation about the strategy showing its features, explaining steps to be completed for the projects and programmes during 2023-2035 so that 2023 will be a year without electricity outages, as it is the primary goal that must be achieved and the point of kick-starting the national strategy. The presentation also outlined the four themes of the strategy, which are energy diversification and increasing the contribution of renewable energies through solar cell technology, wind energy, and solar concentrators, through which 4,000 megawatts are targeted to be produced.
