Members of the Municipal Council of Benghazi rejected the decision made by the government of Abdullah Al-Thani to dissolve the municipal council and rename it to become a management council, consisting of a president and four members.

The members pointed out in a statement Thursday that the decision of Al-Thani was issued in a manner contrary to the principle of legality and mechanism for the appointment and election of the municipal council, demanding Al-Thani to reverse his decision, otherwise, the Council will resort to the judiciary.

The military governor of the eastern region had earlier dismissed the elected mayor of Benghazi and replaced him with a former military figure.
