Libya leaders pledge to restore security balance in Tripoli

The Presidential Council (PC) member Abdullah al-Lafi and Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh have stressed the need to restore and stabilise the security situation in the capital, Tripoli, through coordinated institutional efforts.

The two officials met on Sunday at the Nasr Forest Halls Complex to review the security conditions across the country. According to a statement on the government’s official platform, the meeting focused on overcoming security challenges and enhancing cooperation among national institutions to prevent instability.

CBL detects unrecorded 3.5 billion dinars in withdrawn banknotes

Libya’s Central Bank (CBL) has uncovered 3.5 billion Libyan dinars in 50-dinar banknotes that were not officially registered, raising concerns over possible large-scale unregulated currency circulation.

In a preliminary count of withdrawn notes, the bank said the unaccounted cash is part of a second issuance printed in Russia during a period when Libya was operating with two rival central banks.

Al-Ahly Benghazi and Al-Ahly Tripoli compete for 2024-25 Basketball League title

The Libyan sports scene is witnessing a fiery confrontation between the two basketball giants, Al-Ahly Benghazi and Al-Ahly Tripoli, in the final of the 2024-25 Basketball League.

The final will be held according to the "Best of Five" system; the team that wins three out of five matches will be crowned the league champion.

The series of matches begins on Monday, with Al-Ahly Benghazi hosting Al-Ahly Tripoli at the Al-Hilal Sports Club Hall. The second match will be held the following day, Tuesday, at the same hall.

Herd of gazelles released in the Waddan Mountain range

A ceremony was held on Saturday in Wadi Al-Hisan—one of the locations within the Waddan mountain range—for the release of a herd of gazelles, as part of an initiative launched by the Waddan Wildlife Association to preserve biodiversity and environmental balance in the area.

The herd consisted of ten male and female gazelles, previously captured from various parts of Al-Jufra. Some of them were born in private farms in the city of Waddan.

The event was attended by representatives from several official bodies, local civil society organizations, and businesspeople supporting the initiative.

Libya reviews textbook supply amid corruption concerns

The Libyan authorities convened a high-level meeting in Tripoli on Wednesday to address delays and concerns surrounding the printing and delivery of school textbooks for the 2025–2026 academic year.

The meeting, chaired by the head of the Administrative Control Authority, Abdullah Qaderbouh, included the acting Minister of Education in the Government of National Unity, the Deputy Minister for Educational Affairs, and representatives from several related bodies.

Health Ministry distributes new batch of growth hormone for children

The Ministry of Health in the Government of National Unity confirmed on Monday the arrival of a new batch of growth hormone intended for the treatment of children suffering from growth disorders.

The ministry called on the parents of affected children to visit one of the accredited hospitals or health centers to obtain the medication.
