The London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted Syrian sources on Friday as saying that Russia had started recruiting Syrians, some of whom are known to belong to the Syrian "Friends of Russia" organization, in order to fight in Libya alongside Haftar's militias attacking the capital.

According to the newspaper, Russia has asked about 50 Syrian youths from Duma and Eastern Ghouta regions to fight in Libya for $ 800 per month, on a three-month combat mission.

The recruits would also be exempted from compulsory service in the Syrian army, and the security prosecution by the Syrian regime, according to the newspaper.
