Authorities have discovered an archaeological site dating back to the Roman era near the Jouddaim Forest, some 40 km west of Tripoli.

The Interior Ministry said the investigation bureau of the Jouddaim Forest Office submitted a report to the Tourism Police and Antiquities Protection Service concerning suspicious activities in the forest.

According to the report, a person was detected vandalizing suspected archaeological sites in search of antiquities.

To verify the case, a security force moved to the site, accompanied by two experts from the Sabratha Antiquities Office. During the inspection, the team discovered an archaeological site dating back to the Roman era, the Interior Ministry added.

The ministry pledged to take legal measures against the offender and to tighten security around the archaeological areas.
