UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily

The UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily discussed with the Japanese Ambassador to Libya the challenges facing the formation of a unified Libyan government.

This came during a meeting in the capital, Tripoli, during which they reviewed the current political, security and economic scene, and the challenges facing moving the political process forward.

Bathily stressed the need to coordinate international and regional initiatives aimed at supporting efforts to resolve the political impasse, in a process led and owned by the Libyans. He also praised the “positive role” played by Japan, whether in the humanitarian field or through its chairmanship of the United Nations Sanctions Committee on Libya.
