The High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy in the European Union, Josep Borrell, said that Operation Irini has assisted in securing a sustainable solution to the conflict in Libya within the framework of the UN-led Berlin process.
Borrell added, through a recorded video message to the Italian Mediterranean Dialogue Forum on Thursday, that the European Union is prepared to put in more effort to contribute to defusing the crisis in Libya through all diplomatic, security and political means.
He indicated that the EU’s input is based on what he described as the ‘historical opportunity’ provided by recent agreements between the Libyan parties, particularly the ceasefire agreement.
