The G7 has called on the Libyan parties to overcome the current political stalemate by engaging in meaningful dialogue in good faith and without preconditions.

The group added in a press statement in Italy that the inclusive political process led by Libyans and facilitated by the United Nations remains the only viable path towards free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections.

The G7 affirmed its commitment to Libya's stability, independence, territorial integrity and national unity, including confronting external interference, and called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to appoint a new special representative without delay.
