German Chancellor, Angela Merkel pledged to make an effort to spare Libya a proxy war, as she put it.
Merkel added in her speech before the German parliament that the situation in Libya is developing and could take on other dimensions, like that in Syria, stressing that it is necessary to ensure that the situation does not escalate into a proxy war.
She also warned that the unstable situation in Libya constitutes a threat to the entire African region.
