The Greek Consul General in Libya, Agapios Kalognomis, has announced his country's intention to launch a direct shipping line linking the Greek capital, Athens, to the Libyan city of Benghazi.

This came in a statement issued by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday afternoon.

Kalognomis said during a ceremony held at the Greek Consulate in Benghazi last Sunday that the line will contribute positively to facilitating the movement of travelers and commercial transactions conducive to achieve bilateral interests of the two countries.

Last Monday, the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, discussed with the Greek Ambassador, Nicolas Garledinis, resumption of direct flights between the two countries and enhancing cooperation in political and economic fields.
