Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis has announced that the smugglers are the main ones responsible for the sinking of the boat carrying migrants off the southern Peloponnese peninsula in mid-June, stressing that it is unfair to level accusations against the Greek Coast Guard.
During a press conference in Brussels, alongside the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the Greek official called for cooperation with transit countries to prevent the flow of migrants via sea cruises, especially with Libya.
Mitsotakis indicated that a judicial investigation is underway regarding the sinking of the old fishing boat that was carrying a large number of migrants and sailed from Libya, stressing the importance of international cooperation to prevent these tragic incidents.
