Secret papers of the Irish government's national archive have unveiled that Muammar Gaddafi has given over 12.5 million dollars (40 million euros of today's money) to the Irish Republican Army (IRA) in the 1970s and 1980s.

A report by RTE in Ireland said Gaddafi had also given the IRA loads of weapons in five shipments between 1973 and 1986, while France intercepted the sixth shipment aboard "dnuskE VM" vessel in October 1987.

The report says Gaddafi had given IRA 1450 Kalashnikov rifles, 180 guns and 66 automatic rifles, as well as 36 launchers, 10 surface-to-air missiles, 10 flamethrowers, 765 grenades, 5800 kg of semtex explosives, and about 1.5 million ammunition.
