The new Italian envoy to Libya, Pasquale Ferrara, appointed by Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, met in the capital Rome, with the Libyan ambassador to Italy Omar Tarhouni.

The Libyan embassy in Italy said in a statement that the meeting discussed cooperation between the two countries and drafts of memoranda of understanding that are still under the procedure, including agreements on exchange of convicts, customs, and combating illegal immigration.

The two sides also reviewed the work of the Libyan-Italian committee and in this regard, the Italian envoy emphasized that Italy will always stand by the Libyan people and support the dialogue track, including the outcomes of the recent Geneva talks held under the auspices of the United Nations mission in Libya.
