The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced on Wednesday evening the return of telecommunications and Internet services to Derna and the eastern region, after reactivating alternative tracks for fiber optic cables.

Dbeibah said on his Facebook page the efforts of the field crisis team for the telecommunications sector succeeded in restoring communications and Internet services to the city of Derna and the eastern region, after re-implementing new tracks for fiber optic cables for the infrastructure.

Sources from Derna reported that telecommunications and the Internet had been restored to the city after an outage that lasted more than 36 hours, following the city’s network being cut off on Tuesday by fiber optic cables, which the Telecommunications Holding Company suggested was likely the result of sabotage.
