The European Union's (EU) delegation, and diplomatic missions of EU states, to Libya said on Wednesday that they were only considering participating in the Benghazi International Conference for Reconstruction of the City of Derna and the affected cities as observers at technical level, adding that their attendance would not constitute an endorsement of any unilateral reconstruction initiatives, or of the status of any Libyan participants

"In the wake of the disaster that hit eastern Libya, ordinary Libyans across the country have shown the way for unity, solidarity and compassion. Recalling UNSC Resolution 2702/2023, we renew our call to the Libyan stakeholders for a coordinated national platform, supported by UNSMIL, to release funds for the long term reconstruction efforts, and for the reconstruction to be managed and distributed transparently, with effective oversight and accountability to the Libyan people." The EU delegation's statement reads.

Day 1 of the International Conference for Reconstruction of the City of Derna and the affected cities, organized by the House of Representatives-designated government, kicks off in Derna on November 01 under the slogan "Together, we will build it again."
