The Office of the Public Prosecution announced the arrest of an immigrant smuggling network in connection with the transportation of illegal migrants into the country, which led directly to the death of several migrants.

The Office said in a statement that the arrest came following the Kufra Prosecution’s thorough investigation into a report submitted by an immigrant named Mohamed Adam, according to which, a number of immigrants had died near the Libyan-Sudanese border.

The Office stated that 28 immigrants from Sudan were smuggled into Libya in return for undisclosed amounts of cash.

The human smugglers abandoned 14 of them in the middle of the desert without any means to assist them across the scorching land, causing the inevitable death of six migrants, whilst the remainder became lost and unaccounted for in the desert.
