The Libyan Presidential Council said a number of parliamentary election candidates had proposed to the Head of the council, Mohammed Menfi, an initiative for holding parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible, reiterating support for the council's national reconciliation efforts.

Menfi met with the candidates in Tripoli as part of his efforts to keep the popular momentum and desire of about three million voters who wish to hold constitutional elections agreed on by all, the Presidential Council said in a statement.

Menfi urged the candidates to continue to call for speeding up the holding of elections, saying the Presidential Council will exert all needed efforts to achieve stability via free and transparent elections as per a consensual constitutional basis and whose results are accepted by all parties.
