A delegation from the Departments of Environmental Sanitation Affairs and Solid and Liquid Waste at the Ministry of Local Government visited the municipality of Zliten to find out the causes of the phenomenon of rising groundwater levels in some areas of the city.
The delegation stressed that the visit will be followed by intensive efforts to assess the current situation, as the Minister directed the formation of a team of experts to work on addressing this problem to achieve environmental sustainability and to ensure the provision of pure and healthy water resources to the local community.
Areas in Zliten are witnessing a rise in groundwater levels, which has led to it mixing with sewage and causing water accumulations that threaten the environment and the population.
