The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peace building Affairs, Rosemary Di Carlo, announced on Thursday, the arrival of the initial group of United Nations (UN) observers to Libya.

Di Carlo indicated that this step came following a request from the Libyan authorities and according to the mandate issued by the Security Council.

The UN observers are set to work towards supporting the ceasefire monitoring process in consultation with the Libyan observers appointed by the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC).
