Combating desertification

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says that 95% of Libya's land features a desert or semi-desert environment, highlighting that it is working to mitigate its harmful effects.

In a statement released on Wednesday in celebration of World Environment Day, the UNDP noted that it is collaborating with Sabha University to restore degraded ecosystems, particularly in Libyan oases, which are crucial areas for biodiversity and local livelihoods.

According to the UN agency, the project will support innovative and sustainable solutions to restore vital ecosystems, enhance their resilience, and ensure the well-being of the communities that depend on them.
