tarhouna

The UN Support Mission (UNSMIL) team in Libya, led by UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily, visited Tarhuna on Thursday, where they met with the municipal council, community leaders, activists, academics, and families of individuals who had been affected by human rights violations.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Bathily conveyed the participants' concerns regarding the "systematic marginalisation" of Tarhuna. They emphasised the need for justice and meaningful involvement in the political, reconciliation, and development processes. Additionally, they expressed concern over the potential impact of political divisions on Libya's unity.

He called upon Libyan leaders to draw lessons from historical events and strive for a political consensus through dialogue. This consensus should encompass establishing a unified government, organising elections, restoring legitimacy to Libyan institutions, and securing a lasting peace, according to Bathily.
