The US Special Envoy/Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, has welcomed the head of the UN mission commitment to work towards reviving the political and security path.

“We warmly welcome SRSG Bathily’s undertaking to build a national consensus to preparations for elections, as well as his intention to revive the security track," Norland tweeted on the US embassy's account on Monday.

On Monday, Bathily gave his first briefing before the UN Security Council since he assumed his functions as UN head of mission in Libya.

In his briefing, the UN envoy acknowledged the "daunting challenges" facing the political track in Libya and said he would work to facilitate preparations for elections and reinvigorate the political and economic tracks.
