Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has affirmed his country's support for the Libyan people in endeavours that serve the interests of both nations. 

According to the media office of Libya's Presidential Council (PC), Lavrov disclosed Moscow's intentions to open a consulate in Benghazi, aiming to bolster bilateral relations.

During his meeting with Vice President of the Presidential Council, Abdulla Al-Lafi, Lavrov discussed bilateral ties and efforts to revitalize the Joint Committee's operations. The agenda also included facilitating the return of Russian firms to Libya, particularly in the oil, gas, and infrastructure sectors.

The parties emphasized the UN mission's contributions to Libya's political and security landscape and reviewed Russia's role in addressing regional challenges, highlighting the importance of Libya-Russia relations for fostering stability. 

Al-Lafi expressed gratitude for Russia's stance on Gaza and highlighted support for the Joint Military Committee (5+5) to resolve Libya's political impasse and pave the way for inclusive elections in the near future.
