Zliten municipality spokesman Ismail Al-Jawsmi has said that the problem of high groundwater levels in the city still exists, with the continuation of suction operations from the General Company for Water and Sanitation.
Al-Jawsmi explained, in a press statement on Tuesday, that the work of housing the affected families is ongoing according to the capabilities available to the municipality, pointing out that there is a state of tension and dissatisfaction among the residents as a result of the current situation and the failure to disburse the budget allocated to the municipality.
He pointed out that one of the schools was evacuated after receiving the Engineering Committee’s report, as about 500 students were transferred to Al-Zahraa School, which was rented. He said there are 11 damaged schools due to the rise in groundwater levels.
Al-Jawsmi added that the General Company for Water and Sanitation is continuing its suction operations, and has also distributed water tanks with a capacity of 1,000 liters to residents for use in preserving drinking water.
He pointed out that they are waiting to contract with the English and Egyptian teams that visited the city to find out the solution for the crisis, noting that the two governments are not cooperating on this issue so far.
