The former speaker of the General National Congress and Leader of the Ya Baladi Party, Nuri Abu Sahmain, has accused the politicians who signed the Libyan Political Agreement in Skhirat in 2015 of being responsible for what the country came to.
In an interview with the Moroccan newspaper, Al-Ayyam, Abu Shamin added that “it is inconceivable after five years of the Skhirat Agreement; the parties to the agreement are still sitting to discuss the sovereign positions and the criteria for their assumption despite the complete collapse of the state.”
He also pointed out that the Ya Baladi Party, which he heads, has a vision that calls on the political elites to move away from the political quota system and the repeat of transitional stages, and block the path of those seeking to militarize the state.
On the other hand, Abu Sahmain touched on his recent visit to Moscow at an invitation from the Russian Foreign Ministry in his capacity as the Leader of the Ya Baladi Party.
He explained that he tried during the visit to get acquainted with the Russians' point of view regarding the situation in Libya, expressing to them the Libyans’ annoyance about the interference of Wagner's mercenaries and the bias of Moscow in favor of those against the legitimacy, in reference to warlord Khalifa Haftar.
The Leader of Ya Baladi Party reaffirmed that the solution to the Libyan crisis must be intra-Libyan, under the auspices of the international community through the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) due to the political fragmentation and military infighting, provided that UNSMIL should only adheres to its management and coordination role.
