The Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aqila Saleh, has stated that the HoR will work to choose the head of the new government, during a parliamentary session next Thursday, February 10.

"After listening to the candidates for Prime Minister, we will refer the names of the candidates to the High Council of State (HCS) to submit the required recommendations regarding them”, Saleh added during a parliamentary session on Monday.

Regarding the road map, Saleh said “the road map submitted by the Parliamentary Committee entrusted to vote on it is approved by the HoR, and stipulates that the electoral process takes place within 14 months from the date of the constitutional amendment."

He also added that the committee should consult with the HCS to present the final version of the constitutional amendment, including a precise definition of the articles required to achieve the elections, stressing that "this is done within a maximum deadline of a week to vote on it in conjunction with granting confidence to the government."

On Monday, the two candidates Fathi Bashagha and Khaled Al-Bibas fulfilled the conditions for candidacy for Prime Minister, while the other five candidates did not meet the criteria for candidacy.
