Japanese ambassador to Libya Shimmura Izuru met with the UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily on Monday, the Japanese embassy in Libya said in a statement on Facebook, adding that the ambassador hailed Bathily's efforts for realizing Libyan National Reconciliation as well as confirmed Japan’s strong support toward his works as a non-permanent member in United Nations Security Council.

The embassy also said that Bathily and the Japanese ambassador had a fruitful discussion and exchanged views on the latest development in Libya.

Meanwhile, Bathily said on X platform that he and the newly-appointed ambassador of Japan to Libya commended Japan’s unwavering support in Security Council and through its chairmanship of the Sanctions Committee on Libya.

"I also commended its relief aid to people in East Libya via UN agencies. I underscored the importance of concerted regional and international efforts in fostering lasting peace and stability in Libya." Bathily added.

He also said they had agreed that the solution to the ongoing crisis should come from the Libyans themselves through a UN facilitated process.

The meeting comes within the framework of Bathily's efforts to mobilize support in diplomatic circles for the process facilitated by the UN among the Libyan parties as he continues his efforts to revive the political process.
