The Libyan authorities have arrested two Russian citizens linked to state-sponsored Russian web brigades on charges of trying to influence elections in Libya and other African countries.

According to Bloomberg, a letter from Libya’s Attorney General's Office revealed that the two Russians were involved in securing a meeting with Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi with the support of Russian officials.

No comments were made by the Russians regarding the issue, Bloomberg said.

A third Russian citizen left Libya before Libyan authorities raided his residence.

The letter of the Attorney General, dated July 3, did not mention the date or place of the arrests, although an official had confirmed that the arrest of the Russian citizens took place in Tripoli in May.
