A child who suffered a scorpion sting on Saturday has succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Sunday by the director of the centre's media office, Halima Al-Mahri.
The six-year-old Ilham Yahya was transferred to the Sabha Medical Centre, located about 400 km from Owainat town, where she was stung.
Upon her arrival at the hospital on Saturday evening, Ilham was admitted to the intensive care unit and received five anti-toxin vaccines. Despite all treatment to save her life, she died the next day.
Al-Mahri noted that the centre received on the same day five other similar cases who left the centre after receiving the necessary treatment.
Ilham's death is the first during September, Al-Mahri said, insisting that the centre has a sufficient stock of scorpion vaccines and is making efforts to provide them on an ongoing basis.
