The Council of Libyan Elders called on Wednesday for an immediate end to the attack on the city of Derna.

It also called in a statement for lifting the siege on Derna, and to use wisdom to return to the table of dialogue.

The Council condemned the foreign bombing campaign on the city, expressing their total rejection of foreign interference in Libyan affairs.

The statement called upon dignitaries of the eastern region to assume their responsibilities on the attacks on Derna and to spare the region the scourge of war and conflicts that have tarnished the national social fabric.

According to the statement, the Council of Elders held the House of Representatives, the High Council of State and the Presidential Council the legal responsibility for the country's political crisis and divisions, calling on them to work to promote civil peace, security and stability in the country.
