A delegation from the House of Representatives (HoR) and its designated government paid a two-day visit to the Syrian capital, Damascus.

A statement published by the HoR-designated government's Facebook page explained that during the visit, the delegation met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Speaker of the Syrian People's Assembly, Hammouda Al-Sabbagh, members of the Syrian People's Assembly, and a number of government officials.

The authorities of eastern Libya have been for so long linked to the Syrian regime. In May 2018, a Syrian delegation participated in the activities of an exhibition held in Benghazi, under the slogan “Made in Syria.”

The internationally-sanctioned Cham Wings airliner has also been operating periodic flights between Benghazi and Damascus for about four years.

As for western Libya, on May 22, 2023, the Minister of Housing and Construction, Abu Bakr Al-Ghawi, met with the Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing, Suhail Abdullatif, to discuss ways of cooperation in the fields of housing, and open the door to work and partnership between Libya and Syria.
