Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan received on Friday in Istanbul Chairman of Presidential Council Fayez Sarraj to review cooperation between both countries.

According to a press statement from Sarraj’s media office, both leaders discussed the latest developments in Libya, in addition to other regional issues.

Sarraj expressed thanks for Turkey’s rejection of the war on Tripoli and the role it plays to reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis.

Erdogan reiterated his country’s support for the UN-recognized Presidential Council, calling for an end to Haftar’s aggression on the capital.

“We back the legitimate government headed by Fayez Sarraj for peace and stability of Libya,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan lambasted warlord Khalifa Haftar on Thursday describing him as “pirate” following his orders to target Turkish interests and nationals in eastern Libya.
