gas explosion

An explosion at a cooking gas retail outlet in Mashtal Road of Ain Zara district, south of Tripoli, has left several bystanders injured.

Brega Oil Marketing Company - the main gas cylinder distributor- said it dispatched a team from the Occupational Health and Safety Department to the site to verify the cause of the blast.

According to the company, a seven-kg Chinese cooking gas cylinder, also known as “primes,” caused the explosion that left several expatriate workers with moderate-degree burns.

Brega held the store owner accountable for using the Chinese-made cylinders, which it said do not meet the technical specifications and safety standards.

Disclaiming any responsibility, the company said it had issued frequent warnings through various social and media outlets about the safety risks posed by using these specific cylinders.
