Heavy clashes broke out Wednesday on Tripoli frontlines as Khalifa Haftar's forces attacked Salah Al-Deen, Ain Zara and Airport Road axes achieving brief advances in the early morning.
However, Libyan Army forces under the command of the Government of National Accord managed, after receiving military reinforcements, to repel the attacks and regain all lost positions, pushing Haftar's forces away.
The spokesman for the Libyan Army Mohammed Gununu said they had tackled repeated violations of ceasefire by Haftar's forces on Ain Zara, reiterating that the Libyan Army is committed to the truce.
Later on Wednesday, Haftar's forces fired a number of rockets on different Tripoli neighborhoods and houses in Abu Salim, Al-Hadba and Ain Zara as well as Ras Hassan in downtown Tripoli for the first time since April 2019.
Libyan Army forces lost eight fighters and several others were wounded due to the clashes.
Haftar's forces have been trying for the last three days to control Al-Ramla frontline near Tripoli International Airport in order to control Al-Sawani and Al-Zahraa areas to disconnect Tripoli from Western Mountain region.
On Tuesday, an international call by foreign embassies and the EU urged for a humanitarian halt of hostilities to allow health authorities to operate amid concerns about Coronavirus outbreak.
