A workshop on electoral dispute resolution has begun in the Tunisian capital, organised by Libya’s High National Elections Commission (HNEC) with support from the UNDP–UNSMIL electoral assistance project. The event targets presidents of primary courts across Libya.
The commission said the opening day was attended by HNEC board member Abdelhakim Al-Shaab and Legal Office Director Alaa Al-Shaibani, both of whom highlighted the importance of cooperation between the judiciary and the commission to ensure transparent and fair upcoming elections.
The programme includes a series of training sessions led by a team of legal and electoral experts, covering international standards for resolving electoral disputes, the legal framework for municipal and union elections, and key stages of the electoral process, including vote counting and result declaration mechanisms.
The sessions also reviewed the executive regulations for elections and addressed potential polling-day disputes through open dialogue sessions focused on ballot records and conflict scenarios.
According to the commission, the workshop is part of its preparations for the upcoming phases of municipal elections and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial partnerships and improve coordination for credible and effective electoral administration.
