The head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, has held talks with UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh on the challenges facing election organization amid ongoing political and security uncertainties.
The meeting, which took place on Sunday, also addressed preparations for the 2025 municipal council elections. The second phase of these elections will cover multiple municipalities across Libya.
Discussions focused on the role of the United Nations in supporting the electoral process, including technical assistance, staff training, and ensuring a secure voting environment.
Efforts to boost participation among women, youth, and people with disabilities were also highlighted.
Tetteh reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to aiding Libya’s democratic transition, stressing that municipal elections are vital to local governance and public service delivery.
