The Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Miftah Al-Qawi, has discussed with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Stephanie Koury, ways to enhance judicial independence and unify the judiciary.
This took place during a meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Tripoli, as reported by the Supreme Judicial Council on its Facebook page.
Al-Qawi emphasized the importance of supporting judicial independence, which contributes to building trust in the judicial institution and upholding the principles of justice.
“We also shared views on the crucial role of the judiciary in adjudicating electoral disputes and exchanged on best practices to ensure impartiality, transparency and the rule of law in electoral processes. UNSMIL remains committed to supporting Libya’s judicial institutions in their efforts to uphold justice, protect fundamental rights and contribute to preserving stability”, Koury said on her X platform page.
