The Ministers of Labor and Rehabilitation, and Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Ali Al-Abed and Mohammed Al-Huweij, discussed on Wednesday the issue of foreign labor working in commercial activities, particularly in restricted professions that violate the governing laws.
The Ministry of Labor and Rehabilitation explained that during the meeting, the two ministers emphasized the need to strengthen joint oversight over entities employing foreign workers in unauthorized professions. They stressed the importance of enforcing penalties on violators and protecting the rights of both workers and employers alike.
The ministry added that it was agreed to intensify inspection campaigns and follow up on all procedures with the relevant authorities to ensure a balance between the requirements of economic activity and the protection of the rights of all parties involved.
The Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation underscored during the meeting the importance of integrating economic policies with labor market regulations to create a sustainable investment environment.
The Ministry of Economy and Trade issued in 2022 a decision prohibiting foreign residents in Libya from engaging in direct or proxy buying and selling activities, as well as from renting bakeries and commercial stores for themselves or engaging in real estate brokerage.
