First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR)/ Head of the Parliamentary Division of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, has attended a parliamentary summit to combat terrorism and violent extremism in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
The summit -held on the sidelines of the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, kicked off under the slogan “The Global Response to the Call to Save the Sahel Region".
The HoR spokesman said the summit aims to bring together parliamentarians from around the world, the United Nations, international organizations, members of regional parliamentary assemblies, and local community leaders to address the spread of corruption and to eliminate terrorism and violent extremism in the Sahel region states.
The group also tackled the historical heritage of the region, securing sustainable solutions, transforming global efforts into actions, enhancing awareness, and providing support to find an international-backed African solution.
Belhaq noted that the 2nd version of the summit comes amid security, economic, and social challenges in the African continent.
