The Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Unity commended on Tuesday Resolution No. (2735) issued by the United Nations Security Council on Monday calling for a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip.

The Foreign Ministry reiterated the unwavering stance of Libya on the necessity of adhering to international laws and the importance of the UN Security Council assuming its responsibilities toward maintaining international peace and security.

The Security Council's resolution also stipulated prisoner exchange, reconstruction, the return of the displaced, the entry of necessary aid, and the rejection of any demographic change or reduction of area in the Gaza Strip.

The Security Council voted on Monday in favor of a US draft resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with 14 votes in favor and one abstention, while Russia abstained from voting on the resolution that supports a proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

This is the first time that the Security Council has supported a ceasefire resolution in Gaza since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip more than 8 months ago.
