The Libyan ambassador to Italy, Muhannad Younis, said that Italy is Libya's "first partner", and that the Government of National Unity (GUN) wants to give a very strong boost to the Libyan economy, adding during a meeting with the Italian-Libyan Chamber of Commerce that "Despite all the political problems in the past years, the GNU believes that boosting economy is the only way to make progress and achieve stability, including political stabilization, according to the Italian Nova news agency.

"There are positive developments in Libya and the GNU is working to ensure that the Libyan people can choose their representatives as soon as possible. Libyans are tired of war and want peace. The conflict is of a political nature, and the country will achieve stability through elections." He added.

The Head of the Italian-Libyan Chamber of Commerce stressed the great potential in the integrated development sector for small and medium enterprises, and for education and job training, with Italy being in a central role for training Libyan youth; to make the partnership a bridge of personal, human and cultural relations and not just trade.
