Libyan businessman Abdul Latif Al-Mashai survived an assassination attempt in Istanbul, Turkey.
A group of armed men fired three bullets at Al-Mashai on Aksaray Street. According to blog posts, he was admitted to intensive care.
Al-Mashai had fled Benghazi after Tariq bin Ziyad militia -a group affiliated with Khalifa Haftar's son, Saddam- raided his property in the city.
In Benghazi, Al-Mashai owns a hotel and a supermarket chain, which the militias torched after giving him a deadline to pay a sum of money as part of the royalties collected by Haftar’s sons from local businessmen.
The militia had kidnapped Al-Mashai in April 2021 before releasing him after he paid a ransom for his freedom.
