The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, said in a video statement on Wednesday that giving confidence to a new government by the House of Representatives (HoR) is a conspiracy to legitimize mandate extension for the HoR itself, reiterating his rejection to hand over power to Fathi Bashagha's government because he believed the HoR fabricated the process of approving that government.
Dbeibah said the new government won't work on the ground and won't have any presence in reality, vowing to remain in position until holding elections in June.
“What's happening now is giving the authorities of the state to a party that was involved in bloodshed and killing and led war on Tripoli in 2019. Those who got accustomed to war cannot live without one. They only understand the language of fire and guns. They can't stop, not even by a military defeat because such a defeat can make them want to return in twisted ways, which will eventually lead to the same failure.” Dbiebah said, in a clear reference to Khalifa Haftar.
He also said that most of the House of Representatives’ (HoR) members refused to take part in Tuesday confidence session and said no to extension but yes to elections. He added that what had been happening in Libya was systematic and started by shutting down the constitutional circuit court that was supposed to stop violations and fabrications.
Dbeibah urged the UN Support Mission in Libya to take up its responsibilities by delivering the facts to the international community as it was a witness to the fabrication that happened at the HoR live on TV.
In the meantime, the spokesman for the Libyan House of Representatives Abdullah Blehiq said the new government cabinet, including Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha, will be sworn in on Thursday at noon at the headquarters of the HoR in Tobruk.
This comes one day after Bashagha has received HoR confidence by 92 votes for his cabinet of 29 ministers, six state ministers and three deputy prime ministers.
