Mahdi Al-Tarqi, spokesman for the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, has confirmed the spread of locust swarms, which have reached the Al-Wahat region in the central south, in addition to northern regions such as Sirte.

Although Al-Tarqi confirmed the continuation of locust swarm control in several areas in the south, he noted that locusts have invaded areas where the committee had previously combated swarms, considering this to be a more complex operation.

According to Al-Tarqi, efforts to combat locust swarms face logistical challenges, in addition to other obstacles that compound the problem. Control is not limited to eliminating locusts; it also requires tracking their eggs.

He noted that control teams have detected locust nests containing large quantities of eggs in some agricultural projects in the south, which portends a double wave. Videos circulating, documented by residents of the Al-Qadwariyah, Al-Qadahiyah, and Wadi Jarf areas of Sirte, in the central north of the country, showed scenes of locust swarms arriving in their areas. Residents demanded that the authorities quickly provide them with the necessary pesticides to combat the locust infestation.
